Splatter Stars

Splatter Stars
Total Time Needed:
Afternoon Or Evening

We recommend taking this painting project outside! Make 12 to 14 stars for each bike in your Fourth of July Star-spangled Ride -- enough to brighten up your handlebars and the safety-flag pole.

Materials
  • White paper (we used the back sides of old flyers and computer printouts)
  • Small paintbrushes
  • Tempera paint
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Cardboard toilet paper tubes
  • Duct tape
X

Instructions
  1. Splatter Stars: Step 1 On a protected surface, lay out sheets of white paper. With a paintbrush, flick color onto each sheet, creating drips and splatters.

  2. Once the paint dries, trace or draw star shapes on the paper and cut them out. Run a line of glue around the stars' edges and sprinkle on some glitter.

  3. Splatter Stars: Step 2 Cut 3/4-inch-long pieces from the cardboard tubes and glue them to some of the stars' backs. Snip open the loops and slide them over the bike's handlebars (if necessary, secure them with duct tape). Tape a few stars back-to-back on the safety-flag pole, and use the rest as instructed for the streamer cascade.
