The very thing that makes science so fun--its surprises--also makes it potentially dangerous. Parents should take these steps to ensure the experiment is performed safely:

•Read instructions carefully

•Act as a lab assistants--if the instructions call for using something hot or sharp.

•NEVER let you child taste an experiment (unless the instructions say it's okay to do so).

•Keep hands away from eyes and mouth and make sure they are washed after each experiment.

•Use goggles when working with liquids that splatter.

•Make sure materials are exposed of properly (that is, not in the dog's water bowl).
