A Bushel of Fun

Ways to play with apples from FamilyFun

There's a lot to love about apple picking--the bucolic beauty, the camaraderie, the freedom to sample the wares before you've bought them. Whenever we go, we bring home a whole host of memories--and a heck of a lot of McIntoshes and Macouns.bushel

Unfortunately, the apples that look lovely on the tree don't seem nearly as picturesque when they're cluttering up our kitchen. So we get busy. Inevitably, the first few days after apple picking are devoted to making pies and applesauce for everyone we can think of. The kids get apple snacks (apple pigs and apple puzzles) in their lunch boxes during the week. By the weekend, I break down and let them use the fruit for art projects, such as stamping apple prints and making puppets. All in all, we've found enough apple activities to deplete your bushels and keep your family busy for a week. So click around and pick a few of your favorites to try. How do you like them apples?
