When Meredith Jack of Colorado Springs, Colorado, saw a fabric lunch bag in a store, she figured she could easily make one.
To date, she's crafted one for son Daniel, age 11, one for dad Randy, and one for daughter Angela, age nine.
To make the lunch sack, Meredith cuts a 12- to 16-inch section from a pant leg, folds over a 1/2-inch strip around the top, and sews it down to create a casing. Through an opening she left in the casing, she threads a 3-foot length of cord and knots the two ends together.
The bottom is another piece of fabric cut from the pants, about 1/2-inch larger than the leg's circumference.
Finally, she turns the leg inside out and sews the two pieces together.
Meredith's lunch sacks have one big advantage over the store-bought kind: They're simple to keep clean (she just tosses them in with the laundry once a week).
