Show your appreciation
with a gift of foodA teacher's day is often long and her time to eat notoriously short. So a number of readers have decided the most helpful way to say thank you for a job well done is to provide a meal.
Donna Love of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, a former teacher herself, recruited other parents to make sure both of her kids' teachers got lunch delivered twice a month. Donna even collected menus from nearby restaurants so the teachers could order something they liked.
When her now-grown kids were small, Linda Daffron of Ramsey, New Jersey, arranged a dinner intervention for each day of teacher-appreciation week. Every classroom family signed up to provide one family-size dish, such as an entree or a side, one day of the week (they dropped off the items at school each day). By providing these ready-made dinners, the class gave the teacher not only food, but also the gift of more time to spend with her own kids, says Linda.
