Christmas Cookie Swap Meet

A holiday baking exchange from FamilyFun

by Dorothy Foltz-Gray
While it's tempting to use your stomach for cookie storage, that will only lead to sad faces later on. Instead, have either of the following containers on hand for your guests to collect the cookies in the swap:

•Gather shirt or shoe boxes, one for each family. Wrap and line the boxes in colorful foil or wrapping paper. Put a bow on top, and the boxes will look like presents.

•Whip out those coffee cans or oatmeal boxes you've been saving and make a rotund Santa for each family. Wrap a red construction-paper suit around the can or box and glue it in place. Glue on a paper face, a belt, shoes and floppy arms.

Give Santa a cotton-ball beard and a pair of mittens. For his hat, make a red paper ring that fits loosely around the container's lid. Glue a triangular red paper hat to the inside of the ring and add a cotton-ball pompon and brim.

While this may not hold many cookies, it adds a merry touch to the festivities.

Now that you've got everything planned out, try some of the following recipes from the FAMILYFUN cookbook.
