Instructions
  1. For each character's feet, first cut out a heart or butterfly shape from the cardboard. (An easy method is to trace around an oval-shaped kitchen sponge to create overlapping shapes.)

  2. Use colored magic markers to draw on shoes -- they can even make holes for real shoelaces -- or animal paws. When done, cut a 1/2-inch slit between the heels.

  3. Blow up a balloon for each pair of feet and knot the end. Using markers, carefully draw a face and body directly on the balloon. Slip the knotted end of the balloon into the slit between the feet.

  4. Kids can crown their creations with yarn wigs, felt ears or paper hats, if desired.
