Bunsen Bow Ties

Q: Why do scientists wear bow ties? A: So their ties don't get caught in petri dishes, singed on the Bunsen burner, or nibbled on by lab rats.

- Bright-colored poster board
- Small binder clips
- Duct-tape
- Stickers
- Scissors

To outfit visiting scientists, cut bow tie shapes (about 7 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches high) from bright-colored poster board.

Position a small binder clip against the center back of the bow tie so that the end that opens is facing down. Duct-tape the back half of the clip to the poster board, as shown.

Supply the kids with a variety of stickers for decorating the fronts of their ties.
