Bunsen Bow Ties

Bunsen Bow Ties
Total Time Needed:
1 Hour

Q: Why do scientists wear bow ties? A: So their ties don't get caught in petri dishes, singed on the Bunsen burner, or nibbled on by lab rats.

Materials
  • Bright-colored poster board
  • Small binder clips
  • Duct-tape
  • Stickers
  • Scissors

Instructions
  1. To outfit visiting scientists, cut bow tie shapes (about 7 1/2 inches wide and 4 inches high) from bright-colored poster board.

  2. Position a small binder clip against the center back of the bow tie so that the end that opens is facing down. Duct-tape the back half of the clip to the poster board, as shown.

  3. Supply the kids with a variety of stickers for decorating the fronts of their ties.
