Very nice, but you can see it coming a mile away. Due to its popularity, though, we couldn't ignore it. Instead, we came up with something few moms expect to be served: a delicious edible portrait of themselves on a bagel. Children can also make self-portraits on mini bagels to join "Mom" on the plate.
Depending on your child's age, Dad may need to help prepare these masterpieces.
• Begin with half a bagel covered with plain cream cheese. (Variations: a toasted bagel or flavored cream cheese or peanut butter spread on top.)
•Next, create Mom's likeness with anything from blueberries and chocolate chips to tomatoes and chives. Here's what we used.
MOM: lox "hair," black olive "eyes," parsley "lashes," red pepper "lips," carrot "nose."
GIRL: carrot "hair," chive "hair ribbon," green pepper "eyes," chopped peanut "freckles," grape tomato "mouth."
BOY: chive "hair," carrot and black olive "eyes," tomato "mouth."
