Instructions
  1. null With scissors, cut the rims off two matching plastic lids. In each disk, make a straight cut from the edge to the middle, then cut a circle from the center. The size of the lid will determine the size of the pom-pom; for the larger ones shown here, we used 3-1/4-inch-wide rings with 1-1/4-inch center holes. For the tiny ring pom-pom, we used two 2-1/4-inch-wide rings with 1-inch center holes.

  2. null Stack the two plastic rings so that the cuts in them are aligned. Wrap the rings with yarn, bending them so that you can pass the yarn through the break. Continue winding until the rings are full. For the flowers' two-color pom-pom, wrap an inch of the rings with one yarn color, then cover the rest with a second color. For three colors (as in the ring), hold three strands of yarn together as you wrap.

  3. null Slip the bottom blade of a pair of scissors between the two rings. Carefully cut the yarn all around the outside edge. Handling the rings gently so that the yarn pieces don't fall out, slip a doubled piece of yarn between the two rings and tie it tightly around the yarn pieces. Slide the rings off the pom-pom. Give your pom-pom a haircut, if needed, to make it nice and round.

  4. ROLY-POLY CRITTERS:
Chick: Use tacky glue to attach two black button eyes and two felt triangles for a beak.
Cat: Glue on two triangular felt ears, a curvy felt tail, button eyes, and a button nose.
Frog: Attach two felt feet and two felt semicircular eye shapes with glue. Add two white felt circles and black buttons to the eyes and a small length of yarn for the mouth.

  5. FLOWER PUFFS:   For the stem, insert the end of a straight length of 18-gauge cloth floral wire into a pom-pom, then bend the end of the wire down and around the center.

  6. RING THING:   Use tacky glue to affix the finished pom-pom to the disk part of a milk or juice carton pull tab.
