Glow-in-the-Dark Space Shirt
- Total Time Needed:
- 2-3 Hours
Young stargazers will surely take a shine to our out-of-this-world design made with simple potato prints.
- Materials
-
- Firm potatoes
- Paring knife
- Marker
- Dark T-shirt
- Piece of cardboard cut to fit inside the shirt
- White fabric paint
- Several paper plates
- Glow-in-the-dark fabric paint in a fine-tipped bottle (we used Scribbles Dimensional)
- Instructions
-
-
Slice the potatoes in half and draw a celestial shape on each piece (for precise shapes, sketch them on paper first, use a stencil, or cut out a template). Use the knife to cut out the shapes (a parent's job). -
Slip the cardboard under the area of the shirt where your design will be. Pour white paint on one of the plates and use the potato shapes to stamp your design. Let this base coat dry for an hour. -
With the same stamps, repeat step 2 to apply a second coat (right over the first) with the glow-in-the-dark paints. -
Use the fine tip on the bottle of glow-in-the-dark paint to outline and add details to each shape. Let the shirt dry completely before wearing. -
Wear the shirt outside on a starry night, or turn out all the lights and watch the stars appear indoors.
