Young writers may find it intriguing to turn their focus from what they write to how they write. The distinctive way they dot their Is and cross their Ts might even reveal aspects of their personality. Comparing the writing of family and friends is good fun. The chart here shows just a few of many writing traits a handwriting analyst might examine. (It is important to point out that each quality is just part of a complex whole. The analysis is fun to consider but meant to be taken with a grain of salt.) In the space at right or on a blank piece of paper, your child can write out a few lines from a favorite story, then together you can compare her samples to those on the chart. If your child wants to know more about her handwriting, check your local library for one of the many handwriting analysis guides.
