Felt Beads

Felt Beads
Total Time Needed:
Afternoon Or Evening

As they create this soft, colorful jewelry, beginners will learn the basic sewing skills of cutting shapes and using a needle and thread. Kids will also enjoy making up color patterns. If you happen to have felt scraps left over from other projects, it's an excellent way to use them up.

Materials
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Clasp

Instructions
  1. Using scissors, cut small felt squares to make the beads (ours were 1/2 inch square). If you want a color pattern, now's the time to plan it.

  2. Decide how long you want your necklace (or bracelet or anklet) to be and cut a piece of thread twice that length (ours was 48 inches long, or 24 inches for the final, doubled length).

  3. Thread the needle, double the thread, and knot the ends together. String the beads, adding a few nonfelt beads if you like.

  4. Tie a clasp to the ends or, if your necklace is long enough, simply knot the ends of the thread together.
