This leafy awning makes a colorful impact in a jungle-themed room, plus it costs less than $10 and took only 30 minutes to complete.

Materials
  • Light and dark green craft foam (about 10 sheets (9- by 12-inch), depending on the size of your windows
  • Pen, scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Paper twist (about 6 yards)
X

Instructions
  1. Make a paper pattern of a leaf, and trace that pattern onto light and dark green craft foam. The amount of craft foam will vary depending on the size of your window. (For a 5-foot-wide window, we used 10 (9- by 12-inch) sheets in two shades of green.

  2. Cut out the leaves. We cut 10 large leaves (14 by 8 inches each) and 10 small leaves (5 by 2 1/2 inches each).

  3. Before you hot-glue on the leaves (a parent's job), arrange them on the floor in the pattern you think will look best. Hot-glue the leaves to the valance rod. Note: When you glue, it's easiest if you place the valance rod across the seat of a chair or two. Glue on the large leaves first and then accent with the small leaves.

  4. Add some paper twist (about 99 cents for 6 yards at craft stores) to look like a vine.
