Handprint Soap Dish

Springtime is mud time, and if your kids are whipping up batches of their famous dirt pies or helping in the garden, this soap dish will come in handy when it's time to clean up.
- Materials

- 1 pound of white air-hardening modeling clay (like DAS Pronto)
- Rolling pin
- Waxed paper
- Butter knife
- 2 toothpicks
- Scissors
- Paintbrush
- Acrylic waterproof sealer

Knead the clay to soften it up, then roll it out between two sheets of waxed paper so that you have a 1-inch-thick slab. Help your child firmly press his clean hand into the clay. Deepen or smooth the impression with a wet fingertip, if needed. Trim the edges of the clay with the butter knife, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the handprint.

From the excess clay, shape four 1-inch-wide balls to serve as the soap dish feet. Carefully invert the dish onto a clean section of waxed paper. Cut two toothpicks in half and use each half as a peg for attaching a ball under each corner of the dish. Wait 1 hour for the assembled dish to firm up before turning it back over, then let it dry completely as specified on the clay package.

Finally, apply a few coats of waterproof sealer according to the manufacturer's directions (a parent's job). Once the sealer dries completely, the dish is ready to use.
