Holiday Candle
Creative ways to welcome the holidays from FamilyFun
This decorated candle is a thoughtful way to brighten the season.
Cut thin strips from a sheet of colored beeswax (available at craft stores) and wrap them around a long candle, pressing gently so the beeswax will stick to the candle. Remember that each ring will represent a day until the holiday, so affix the appropriate number of strips, spaced evenly (for example, we placed 1/2-inch strips 1/2 inch apart). Each day, light the candle at a specific time and, while it burns, talk about the meaning of the holiday. Extinguish the candle when it reaches the designated mark. (Tip: When burning the beeswax, blow out the flame when a sliver of the strip is left and peel off the remaining beeswax so it doesn't slide down the candle.)
