B-ball Board

This project scores big points for helping sports enthusiasts stay organized. It features ample room for notes and a basket to hold small belongings.
- Materials

- 17- by 23-inch cork bulletin board with a wood frame
- Paintbrush
- White acrylic paint
- Ruler
- Pencil
- 2 rolls of plastic tape, one red (1 1/2-inch-wide), one white (3/4-inch-wide)
- Metal mesh wastebasket (about 12 inches wide)
- Orange duct tape
- Drill
- Screwdriver
- 4 drywall screws (we used 1 5/8-inch, size #6)
- Black and yellow craft foam
- Hole punch
- Double-sided carpet tape

Cover the corkboard with two coats of white paint, and let it dry.

Use a ruler and pencil to lightly draw a 7- by 8-inch rectangle for the shooter's square, then use the red tape to create the rectangle as shown. Cover the frame with red tape.

Apply strips of white tape to the front and sides of the wastebasket as shown. Cover the rim of the basket with orange duct tape.

Drill four pilot holes for attaching the board to the door (a parent's job): one in each upper corner just below the frame, and two through the back of the basket and into the frame, as shown. Screw the corkboard and basket to the door. Cover the top screws with a dab of white paint if desired.

To make the shot clock nameplate, cut a 2 3/4- by 4 1/2-inch rectangle of black craft foam for each letter of your child's name. (If the name is long, use initials instead.) Lightly draw a letter on each piece of foam, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges. Punch holes about 1/4 inch apart along the lines. (Make small slits in the foam for the hole punch to extend to hard-to-reach lines; they'll be hidden when the letters are mounted.)

Place the letters side by side and measure the width. Cut a piece from the yellow craft foam that's the measured width plus 1 inch, and 5 3/4 inches tall. Use the double-sided carpet tape to mount the letters on the yellow craft foam, then use more tape to mount the nameplate onto the door.
