Painted Switch Plate

These acrylic-painted switch plates will enliven any space, from a bathroom to a playroom.

- Acrylic paint and brushes

Cover the work area with newspaper and slip on some smocks to protect clothing from paint.

To achieve a splashed-on look, dip the brush deeply in paint and then, holding the tip of the handle, wave the brush down and sideways above the switch. Because the target is small, the motion of the brush should be quick and compact. Repeat this process with each color until the plate is sufficiently covered.

Next, try covering another switch plate with a repeated pattern, such as polka dots, stripes, stick figures or spirals.
