Water Works

Icy Activity
More than 10,000 years ago, or so our story goes, a Peruvian child was out hiking with his family high in the Andes, dragging his sandaled feet and repeatedly asking, "Are we there yet?" At some point, a small carved action figure fell out of his alpaca jacket and into a puddle of water, which, over time, froze into a block of ice. With a dramatic setup like that, what bored and overheated kid could resist this icy excavation project?
First, you'll need to freeze an action figure in water in a large plastic container. Then set your young paleontologist to work with a hammer and screwdriver (don't forget eye protection), chipping away at the icy tomb. Be sure to be present when he frees the ancient artifact and discovers that it's perfectly preserved!
