Out-of-Towner Pumpkin

Total Time Needed:
1 Hour

Use household recyclables to create an eye-popping Martian.

Materials
  • Pumpkin
  • Carving knife
  • Opaque lightbulbs
  • Black marker
  • Wire coat hangers
  • Cotton balls
  • Toothpicks
  • Apple

Instructions
  1. Cut off the top and hollow out the pumpkin.

  2. Carve out a wide mouth on the pumpkin face.

  3. Use the marker to draw eyeballs on old painted lightbulbs. Then cut out two eyeholes near the top of the pumpkin's face and carefully insert the base of a bulb into each one (a job for adults only).

  4. For antennae, straighten out wire coat hangers, push the ends into the pumpkin, and cover the tips with cotton balls.

  5. Finally, use toothpicks to attach an apple for a nose.
