Paper Menagerie
With a few folds, you can transform the drawn shape of a four-legged animal into a 3-D miniature. The first time you do this, it's fun to make your kids guess what you're cutting out. Then they'll want to try it.
1. On a scrap of paper, draw the outline of an animal as if it were lying flat on the ground with head, legs and tail extended (a kind of road-kill effect). Cut out the shape, then fold at the joints.
2. Use a pen to draw in the whiskers, eyes, spots and other details.
3. Get good at this, and you can make anything from a Jack Russell terrier to a Thoroughbred.
