Print out Pop-Up Card Template 1 and
Pop-Up Card Template 2 on heavy paper. (To view the .pdf files, you'll need Adobe Reader. which is available for free from the Adobe site.) -
Lay the card with the outline of the bat's feet on a flat surface. Line up the edge of a ruler with the card's center fold. -
With the rounded end of a paper clip, press along the dotted centerline, carefully scoring the card from top to bottom. Cut out the card following the solid lines around the edges. -
Fold the card in half along the scored line. Crease the fold with your thumb, then open the card and put it aside. -
With your ruler and paper clip, carefully score all the dotted lines on the sheet with the bat. -
Cut out the bat following the solid lines around the edges. Also cut the slits marked in red.
-
Fold the bat in half along the centerline, making sure that the printed side is facing out, and crease the fold with your thumb. -
Open the bat again and lay it flat. Fold the left foot up toward the body, crease the fold with your thumb, then unfold it. Do the same with the right foot. -
Now you're going to create the wing pleats. Grasp the lower left wing tab as shown and slowly push the whole wing, along its fold, toward the body. -
As the wing flattens over the body, bend the tab back against the wing as shown, then fold the left foot onto the tab to create an accordion-style fold. Unfold and do the same with the right wing. -
Fold the bat's head down toward the body along its horizontal fold line. Pinch it between your thumb and finger to reverse the vertical fold so it matches the fold of the body. -
Decorate the bat with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. -
Apply glue to the feet on the card and press on the pop-up's feet. When the glue is dry, carefully close the card.
