Rain Forest Vines

Rain Forest Vines
Total Time Needed:
Afternoon Or Evening

If the damp weather is making your house feel like a rain forest, go with the flow and "grow" these tropical vines.

Materials
  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Twine or yarn
  • Glitter
  • Markers
  • Small scraps of felt

Instructions
  1. Cut out lots of matching pairs of construction paper leaves (a parent can cut and trace a leaf template, or kids can fold the paper sheets in half and cut out two leaf shapes at once). While you're at it, make a pile of matching pairs of paper flowers.

  2. On a long table or the kitchen floor, set out all the pairs in a long line.

  3. Flip over half of the flowers and leaves so that their "wrong" side is facing up, then spread glue on each one.

  4. Cut a long length of twine or yarn and drape it over the middle of each glued flower or leaf.

  5. Press down each matching flower or leaf on top of its glued mate (in short, you're making a yarn sandwich), until you have one long, connected line of double-sided flowers and leaves.

  6. When dry, decorate the vine with glitter, markers and felt scraps, or with construction paper details such as petals and curlicue vine tendrils.
