Say It with Feathers
A "My Great Idea" from FamilyFun
Since Thanksgiving sometimes gets overshadowed by the popularity of Halloween and Christmas, I came up with a way to keep my family focused on the true spirit of the season--namely, giving thanks. My seven- and six-year-old daughters crafted a construction paper turkey (minus the feathers) that we glued to a large piece of white poster board. After covering it with clear Con-tact paper and posting it on a wall, we cut out orange, red, and yellow paper feathers--enough so that each family member had a feather for each day in November. After dinner every night, we each wrote what we were thankful for on one of our feathers, then taped the feathers to the turkey. As the days marched on, our Blessing Turkey became cloaked in a full coat of feathers, and my family enjoyed being mindful of our many blessings.
