Star-Studded Lamp
- Total Time Needed:
- 1-2 Hours
Calling all stargazers! Turn a plain lampshade into a celestial beacon, illuminated by a galaxy of simple stars. And the technique couldn't be easier--follow the steps below.
- Materials
-
- Low tack shelf liner
- Craft knife
- Lampshade
- Oil paintstick
- Cosmetic sponge
- Instructions
-
-
Draw stars (or other simple shapes) on low-tack shelf liner paper, cut them out carefully with a craft knife, then stick them all around the lampshade. These become a kind of reverse stencil.
-
Smear an oil-paint stick (we used Shiva brand Artist's Paintstik) on a paper plate. Wipe a cosmetic sponge into the smear, then rub the paint over the edges of the stencils always working from the centers of the stickers out and onto the lamp.
-
Continue to apply the paint until the lampshade is colored to your liking. Carefully remove the stars and allow the lampshade to fully dry.
-
If you've cut out the stars carefully, you now should have several traditional stencils ready for use on a nearby wall or ceiling. Affix them in place and apply latex wall paint with a pouncing motion.
