Sweet Silhouettes
- Total Time Needed:
- 1 Hour
FamilyFun intern Jessye Siciak of Bernardston, Massachusetts, introduced the age-old craft of creating silhouette portraits to her family last Christmas. "It's kind of neat to see where your features came from. I saw that I have my mom's nose!" said Jessye.

To make your own silhouette artworks, tape a large sheet of white paper to the wall of a dimly lit room. Have someone sit sideways in a lamp's light so that the shadow of his head is cast onto the paper.
-
Trace the profile onto the paper, cut it out, then use the cutout as a template to trace the profile onto black construction paper.
-
Cut out that profile. You can then mount the silhouette on colored paper, embellish it with wrapping paper or other materials, and frame it.
