Vegetable Puppets

Six homemade puppet ideas from FamilyFun

You don't have to be a student of the puppetry arts to detect the tribute being paid here to Mr. Potato Head. Indeed, "old tuber eyes" is the patron saint of edible art projects: He proved food can be fun.

Vegetable Puppets

MATERIALS

Large carrots
Popsicle sticks
Cream cheese
Raisins or olives
Celery
Parsley
Green beans

Peel a carrot and cut off both ends. With a paring knife, make a slit in the bottom of the larger end (adult artists only) and insert the Popsicle stick. Using the cream cheese as glue, affix raisins or olives for eyes and a nose, a slice of celery for the mouth and parsley sprigs for the hair. For the arms and legs, cut green beans in half and affix with generous amounts of cream cheese (cut the legs at an angle).

PUPPETEER'S TIP: The ideal stage for a kitchen table puppet show is, naturally, the kitchen table. The puppeteer hides below, holding the puppets above the edge.
