Art Gallery
A kids' art display idea from FamilyFun magazine
Art Gallery As a rule, art galleries don't exactly welcome kids with open arms (Don't run! Don't touch! Shh!), but these frames invite kids to draw, paint and create whenever inspiration strikes. This setup is best for kids who have learned to draw within the space allotted to them and know how to use different materials--generally kids ages five and up. The drawing-, cork- and marker boards below are mounted on corrugated cardboard and hung on the wall, but for a more permanent installation (say, in a child's bedroom), you could attach the materials and paint the frames directly on the wall. Ironically, this is one of the simplest designs for the artistically uninclined to execute. All you need to make are squares.

CHALKBOARD
Paint a chalkboard rectangle onto the wall, then tape or glue on a corrugated cardboard frame. For an even simpler display, you can also just hang a store-bought chalkboard onto the wall.

MARKER BOARD
Buy a rectangular marker board. With tape or glue, attach a corrugated cardboard frame around the edges. For convenience, you can also affix dry-erase markers and an eraser to the cardboard frame with a few Velcro dots. For illumination, clip on a book light (about $7 at most department stores), which can be moved from frame to frame.

CORKBOARD
Cut out a rectangle of cork and glue it onto a matching rectangle of corrugated cardboard. Paint, if desired, then glue or tape on a corrugated cardboard frame (we adorned ours further with painted cardboard cutouts). Add a few thumbtacks to hold up messages or hang small drawings or photographs.

DRAWING PAD
Here, we painted a store-bought bulletin board, then hung a drawing pad on it with string and thumbtacks. Similarly, you could also mount the drawing pad directly on the wall.

FACE BOARD
Mount a small oval mirror at your child's face level on a painted bulletin board. Frame, if you like, with corrugated cardboard. Your child can cut out a variety of paper hats, hairstyles, clothes and other accessories, then tack them around the mirror to change his look.
