BELFAST, MAINE
This diesel train travels from Belfast to Brooks and back, taking in rocky coastline and gentle farmland along the banks of the Passagassawaukeag River. The 1 1/4-hour ride (complete with a staged train robbery) costs $16 for adults and $8 for kids ages 3 to 16. Combine the trip with a one-hour tour of Penobscot Bay aboard the riverboat Voyageur for $16 for adults, $8 for kids (free for kids under age 3). Call 800-392-5500.
