Creative Father's Day Gifts

Question My kids are looking for some creative gifts to make for their dad for Father's Day. Any fun and easy ideas?

AnswerA "World's Greatest Dad" T-shirt may be nice, but if your kids really want a gift that will warm Dad's heart, homemade is the way to go. One of my favorites is a simple memory card for his wallet. Just cut a credit-card-sized rectangle out of poster board, then have your kids decorate both sides with messages, stickers, drawings and glued-on photographs. To make the card sturdier, cover it on both sides with clear Con-Tact paper or run it through the laminator at your local copy shop (about $2). Dad can keep the card in his wallet and take it with him wherever he goes--a sweet reminder of who loves him best.

Another fun gift is a reward jar. Kids can brainstorm a bunch of special treats Dad might like--from the practical ("I promise to help you rake the leaves") to the sweet ("Redeemable for one big bedtime hug") to the creative ("I'll read you a story at bedtime"). Write the rewards on colored strips of paper, then slip them into a glass jar that the kids can decorate with stickers or paint.

If you're looking for card ideas, try making a photo house card or a collage card, both of which showcase some of Pop's favorite things. And don't forget to finish off the day with something truly sweet: a delicious Father's Day cake, decorated by your kids.
