Instructions
  1. First collect several small, corrugated cardboard boxes (our middle-size box measures 9 1/2 by 6 by 5 1/2 inches). On each box, draw one, two, or three pairs of eyes, then cut them out with a craft knife or scissors (adults only).

  2. Paint the boxes, except the backs and bases, with midnight blue acrylic paint or tempera paint.

  3. Open the bottom or side of each box to secure double layers of yellow tissue paper over the eyeholes with clear tape. Cut pupils from black card stock and attach them to the outside of the tissue paper with tacky glue.

  4. null Arrange the boxes as you like. In the rear panel of each box, cut a small access flap with square holes at either end, as shown. Tuck a strand of white holiday lights into the boxes so that each box has an equal number of bulbs, with only wire (no bulbs) between the boxes.

  5. Plug in the lights to see if the eyes look bright and evenly lit. If needed, put a self-adhesive hook inside a box to hang a section of lights near the top. Tape up any open flaps with packing tape.
