Celebrate Your Family History

Six activities from FamilyFun

My two sons are from a typical American family. They are a mix of family five nationalities, from Norwegian to German, and have ancestors who immigrated here over the course of three centuries. They descend from Roman Catholics, Presbyterians, and Lutherans, from Republicans and Democrats, from longshoremen and bankers.

To help them learn about their own history, we undertook a variety of projects that encouraged us to look at all the ways our ancestors have shaped who we are today. Each activity was a journey, with some sleuthing involved, and each had a big payoff--a new family treasure to be passed through the generations. So, from easy-to-do Millennium Family Portraits to the slightly more ambitious oral histories, here are six projects we hope your family will find as fun and fulfilling as we did.
