Four years ago on Thanksgiving, my daughter, Katie, then age five, and her cousins were playing with her Play-Doh cookie-maker set. They made a selection of Play-Doh cookies and came around offering them to the adults. We all played along and pretended to eat ours. My husband's grandfather, who was 87 at the time (he is still alive and well at 91), didn't quite get the idea. He selected a cookie and, before anyone could stop him, took a big bite. We all had a good laugh. "We always said Grandpa Howie would eat anything," said my mother-in-law. "And now we know!"
