Sunflower Sunroom
A fun gardening idea from FamilyFun
SunroomYou don't need a hammer and nails, or even wood, to build this pretty little house--just a few gardening tools and a handful of sunflower seeds.

Any time after the last frost is prime growing season. Use a mix of Mammoth sunflower seeds (for height) and Teddy Bear or Dwarf sunflower seeds (to fill in the walls). Following package directions for planting, set the seeds in a horseshoe shape. Choose a sunny spot where the soil is dry and drains well--sunflowers can take the heat but will suffer from overwatering.

 Materials
  • Garden area to grow sunflowers
• Sunflower seeds
• Garden tools

While waiting for the seeds to sprout (it takes two to three weeks in warm temperatures), your child can spruce up the grounds around her house site--laying a stone walkway to its door or making a "Welcome" sign.
