Hi, I'm Lee Woodruff in the kitchen with Family Fun. This is the best time you and your kids will have making ice cream, and it tastes great too.
You'll need two tablespoons of sugar, one cup of half and half, a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, a 1/2 cup of kosher salt, ice cubes , small and large zip lock bags with an easy zipper, and your child's favorite ice cream toppings. First, combine the sugar, half and half, and vanilla extract in your small zip lock bag. Seal it and set it aside. Next, add enough ice to fill the large bag halfway. I've doubled bagged mine to make it extra secure. Then, add your salt. It's best to use a large granule salt like kosher or rock salt which are sold at most grocery stores. Finally, add the smaller bag and seal tight. Now, shake the bags until the ice cream hardens. It takes about five minutes, so expect to give your arms a real work out. Once it becomes a consistency of frozen yogurt you're done, it's that simple. Just add toppings and the kids can enjoy ice cream right out of the bag.
