Hi, I'm Lee Woodruff in the kitchen with Family Fun. This ladybug cake is so sweet and it makes a fabulous birthday cake that the kids will love.
To make it you'll need a dome cake, a cupcake, some red icing, Junior Mints, green gumdrops, and some black licorice. Chill the cake to make frosting easier and trim it so it lays flat. Then, place a cupcake upside down next to your cake, like so. Now you have the makings of the body and head. The next step is to frost the cake with red icing. If you're planning a large party, make two or three cakes or just double the size of your dome cake. Now, how does a lady bug get her spots? Well, from Junior Mints of course! Then, add gum drops for the eyes and licorice for the antenna. This lady is ready to make her debut! Handout goodie bags filled with red and black candies and antenna made from a headband, pipe cleaners, and pom-pons and you've got the beginnings of a very buggy birthday bash.
