Hi, I'm Lee Woodruff with the Family Fun Minute. Turn a plain lamp shade into a work of art with these simple techniques. Liven up a lamp shade with miniature ornaments.
Start by using a hole punch to create holes about three inches apart around the base. Then, thread a small wire ornament hanger through each hole and hook on a miniature ball ornament. You can even use children toys. For a different design you can create simple stripes by spreading a small patch of glue on the lower edge of the shade. Press the loose end of a role of crepe paper on the glue to stick in place and wrap the crepe streamer around the shade. Cut the streamer from the role once you've reached the top and the entire surface is covered. You can also cut out shapes from your child's artwork and glue to the shade. With a solution of three parts glue and one part water, paint over the cutouts taking care to coat all the edges. Use craft wire to add a small toy to the pull chain. These shades are sure to brighten up your kid's bedroom. For detailed product instructions and more kids room ideas visit familyfun.com com.
