All submissions may be edited for length or clarity. Photographs will be returned only if accompanied by an SASE. Please include a daytime phone number for verification purposes.

If you'd like to submit a photo with an email or traditional letter, please send a quality image. Here are a few tips for taking shots that will reproduce well in the magazine -- and therefore be more appealing to our editors:

Keep your child and the craft project, recipe, or whatever in focus.

Make sure the subject of your photo is well lit but not washed out.

Avoid distracting backgrounds, such as an open closet or a cluttered counter, behind your subject.

Try to get a spontaneous shot that's loose and natural.

Don't worry about red-eye or imprinted dates: we can fix that kind of thing.

When submitting photos, the sooner you send us your photos, the better. Our lead-time is more than two months. For example, when you're getting the September issue, we're already working on the December/January issue. Lots of great shots miss our deadline. However, please send your photos and letters even if you think it might be too late for us to publish them: we make copies and put them in a big binder for the whole staff to enjoy. We love hearing from you!
