The Giant Cookie

Total Time Needed:
2-3 Hours

Your kids will love posing for this picture -- inspired by the book "Tricky Pix: Do-It-Yourself Trick Photography" by Paula Weed and Carla Jimison (Klutz, $18) -- because it's like putting on a magic show.

Materials
  • 35mm point-and-shoot camera
  • Gingerbread cookie
  • Clear fishing string
  • Card stock
  • Stickers
X

Instructions
  1. Bake or buy a standard-size gingerbread person to dangle in front of the lens for a sweet optical illusion.

  2. Ice the cookie with clothing that matches your kids' outfits. Cut about 3 ½ feet of fishing line and either tie an end to each of the cookie's wrists, or duct-tape one end of the fishing line to the back of the cookie's head.

  3. The Giant Cookie - Step 3 If you shoot outdoors, choose a calm day so the cookie won't twist in the wind. Have a helper stand in the foreground and your subjects in the background. Have the helper move the cookie up or down until its feet line up with the subjects' feet when you look through the camera lens. Then fine-tune the illusion by moving the camera up or down.

  4. The Giant Cookie - Step 4 Once your photo is developed, make the card by using card stock and attach the photo with stickers.
