Adventure Elf
- Total Time Needed:
- Afternoon Or Evening
When it comes to costumes for boys, it's all about the accessories, particularly when there's a weapon involved. The stores are full of inexpensive, mass-produced outfits, but it's more fun and creative -- and less expensive -- to create a costume with things you have at home. And for this adventurous elf costume, it all starts with a trip to dad's closet.
- Materials
-
- Dad's old green polo shirt
- Dad's green tie
- Green or brown sweatpants or shorts
- Optional: tights (let's be honest, elves wear 'em)
- Cardboard
- Silver/gold paint
- Green felt
- Red feather
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Optional: Store-bought plastic dagger and store-bought elf cap
- Instructions
-
-
Modify the polo shirt by cutting jagged edges at the bottom of the shirt and at the sleeves.
-
Use the tie as a belt/sash, tying a loop to hold the dagger
-
To make a dagger from scratch, cut it out of cardboard and use silver and gold paint to make it look realistic.
-
To make the hat, cut two ovals out of green felt large enough for your child's head. Sew or staple them together, leaving an opening at the bottom. Use a glue gun to add a decorative feather.
