Easter Egg Decorating Party

by Adrienne Stolarz
Easter Egg Decorating Party

At Eastertime, the humble egg finally gets its moment in the spotlight. Pulled from the darkness of the fridge, it's no longer merely a fragile breakfast food: It's a blank canvas ready for a kid's artistic touch. So we decided it was time to give the egg the attention it deserves, with an entire party devoted to egg decorating.

Here we'll show you how to turn ordinary eggs into works of Easter art. With our simple techniques and imaginative designs, you and your guests can do so much more than just dipping and dyeing. Set up any of our three party stations to create colorful farm animals (with pipe cleaner legs), feathery birds and superheroes that hang on fishing line, or an egghead family whose snappy holiday attire consists of a decorated cardboard tube. The eggs are waiting, so get crackin'!

Easter Party

PARTY STATION #1: FARM FRIENDS

With hard-boiled eggs, vibrant egg dye, a cute pipe cleaner stand, and some glued-on details (paper ears, pom-pom noses, and so on), this critter-creatin' station will let partygoers raise their own menagerie.

PARTY STATION #2: FLYING BIRDS AND BEES

At this craft table, kids can blow eggs, then turn them into bees, butterflies, and more. All you need is a few dozen raw eggs, paint, craft supplies, and fishing line for hanging the eggs. The best part? These blown-egg creatures will keep indefinitely.

PARTY STATION #3: THE EGG FAMILY

With their paper tube bodies and glued-on features (cotton ball beards, yarn pigtails, and wire specs), this family of eggheads will crack up partygoers. Be sure to have lots of hard-boiled eggs on hand, both brown and white.
