First Night Celebration

First Night CelebrationTraditionally in our household, New Year's Eve is a non-event. Since it's sandwiched somewhere between Christmas and Optimal Skiing Conditions and--most significantly-- celebrated at a time of day when my three children are in REM sleep, we tend to overlook it as a major holiday. Indeed, the biggest part of New Year's for me is remembering the change of digits when I write out a check. But for this historic turn of the calendar, I've decided to handle things differently. After all, as my husband pointed out, a new millennium only comes along ... well ... once in a millennium. If you're ever going to let the kids stay up past midnight, this is the year to do it.

Of course, once you decide to invite the kids, champagne toasts and the Times Square ball don't cut it for entertainment. With this in mind, we've dreamed up a New Year's party that celebrates the past thousand years--with a special focus on the incredible changes of the last century, for kids who might find it interesting to learn that a nickelodeon is more than just a TV channel. From goofy party games to predicting the future, there's enough fun to last you well into the 21st century.
