Madeline For A Day

Bring some Parisian flair to your child's next birthday celebration

You can't have a Madeline party without yellow Parisian schoolgirl hat bonnets. These chapeaus, made from disposable paper (or foam) bowls and plates, are nearly as much fun to make as they are to wear.

MATERIALS

20 oz. heavy duty paper bowls
10 3/8-inch heavy duty paper plates
Pencil
Scissors
Yellow poster or acrylic paint
Roll of 2-inch blue crepe paper streamer
Glue stick--that won't bleed when used on crepe paper

DIRECTIONS

1. For the hat's opening, cut out the outer lip of a bowl, trace the opening onto the plates and cut out the traced circle. Glue a bowl, face down, over the opening.

2. After glue dries, paint hats with yellow paint.

3. Once the paint is dry, add a hat band--for each hat, cut off about a yard of streamer and fold in half so that it is 1-inch thick. Draw a line around the crown of the hat with glue stick. Press streamer over the line of glue and tie in a bow at the back.
