Create Some Cars
Make cool
custom vehicles from roomy cardboard boxes. Draw details with markers and use glue dots to secure plastic-plate wheels and jar-lid headlights. Toss in some pillows for comfort.
Add a Spot for Munchies
A
shoe-box tray, attached to the side of each car with large binder clips, keeps edibles close at hand. Prevent drinks from toppling by cutting 2-1/2-inch-long slits at one corner of each tray, then folding in the cut portion as shown.
Serve a Meal on Wheels
For a no-fuss dinner, bake up a fleet of
drive-in dogs. Roll hot dogs in 4-inch squares of pizza dough (we used a tube of Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crust) and place them seam-down on an oiled baking sheet. Press halved black olives into the sides for wheels. Bake the dogs according to the dough package's instructions, until the crust is golden brown. Using toothpicks, attach halved sweet gherkins, then add faces with a toothpick dipped in mustard. Cut a small slit in front of each car's passengers, insert a pickle-slice steering wheel, and they're ready to roll.
Don't Miss Intermission
Show a double feature, or rent a disc of classic cartoons to screen before the main event. At intermission, invite moviegoers to visit a
kitchen concession stand stocked with popcorn and a few favorite treats.
Take It Further
For a sleepover party, pick up a
roll of tickets at a party store and mail them out to guests to be used for admission and concessions. Have an usher on duty to collect the tix (with extras for forgetful moviegoers).
