candy critters

The king asked the kids in the Land of Candy how they came up with the idea to make candy critters, and they said, "We just started stringing candies onto licorice, and soon we had a foot-long caterpillar." Another child said, "We found wing-shaped candies, put them together, and candy butterflies flew out of our hands!"

To make the caterpillars, the kids cut a length of string licorice a little longer than they wanted their caterpillars to be. Then they strung on the LifeSavers candies and knotted each end. For legs, they tied on shorter pieces of licorice; for eyes, they attached two tiny candies with frosting. To make the butterflies, they attached two semicircular candies with frosting to form the wings. Then they added a tiny candy body, licorice antennae, and M&M's Minis spots.
