Choosing the Right Puppy

Tips on selecting a dog breed from FamilyFun

These intelligent, active dogs were bred to herd and guard, so their energy needs to be channeled: Owners must be prepared to do a lot of training. The Shetland sheepdog, because it can be a bit high-strung, is recommended for families with older children. Shelties are not only intelligent, they are also willing, making them one of the most trainable breeds.

Pembroke Welsh corgis look like stumpy little yellow Labs. They have adorable, expressive faces and are much stronger than their size suggests. Because they can be a little reserved, they are also best in families with older children.
