After-Dinner Diversions

Games the whole family can play, from FamilyFun

by John Porcino
Growing up in a family of nine I always looked forward to those evenings when my brothers and sisters and I could persuade Dad or Mom to play outside with us after dinner. Whether the game was kickball or kick the can, charades or flashlight tag, those lingering hours in the backyard remain some of my happiest memories.

The following games are some of our favorites. Like the best backyard classics, they need little or no equipment, are easy to learn and can be played by groups of all sizes. Ever adaptable, they serve equally well as a five-minute diversion before bathtime or an entire evening's entertainment, interrupted only by the sounds of parents calling in kids through the darkness.
