Beach Bingo
A day at the beach wouldn't be complete without playing this homemade beach-themed matching game!
- What You Need
-
- 1 small metal box with a hinged lid (we used an Altoids tin)
- Ruler, pencil, scissors
- 3 or 4 index cards, trimmed to fit inside the box lid (ours are about 2 inches by 3 inches after trimming)
- Crayons or colored pencils (markers tend to run in the salt spray)
- 9 small, round magnets
- Instructions
-
-
The day before your beach trip, have the kids draw game cards featuring objects they might plausibly spy at the beach. For instance: tide pool creatures, a strand of podded seaweed, the tiny footprints of a shorebird, a polka-dotted swimsuit ...
-
Use a ruler and pencil to mark off each trimmed index card into 9 equal squares. Put the finished cards inside the box, along with the magnets.
-
To play: Each player selects a card and places it inside the lid of the open tin. Every time you see a creature from your card, mark it with a magnet. Three in a row -- horizontal, vertical, or diagonal -- wins. Or play to fill the whole card.
