Double Vision: Hole in the Hand
The perks of possessing a pair of peepers. Ever wonder why we have two eyes instead of just one? Because our eyes are in two slightly different locations, they each perceive things a bit differently. Each one relays a separate image to our brain, which combines the two pictures into one, giving us a truer view of the world around us. This helps us see objects more completely, as well as determine depth and distance.

Roll a sheet of paper into a tube and have your child hold it up to one eye. When she positions her other hand next to the tube, a few inches from her face, as shown, she will see what looks like a hole in her hand.
-
What's going on: One eye sees a round image through the tube; the other sees her hand. When the brain combines, or overlaps, those two pictures, it looks as though she has a hole in her palm!
