Little Helpers: Simple Ways to Make Housework Fun for Tots

Ages: 6 months and up

Kids Can Help Decorate Any hour is a happy one when your tot proudly offers you a Goldfish cracker or a sippy cup from his very own pint-size serving tray. (Decorated with his colorful tissue-paper handprints, it doubles as a clever keepsake.) Just be sure to choose complementary colors of background paint and tissue paper, since the tissue will become beautifully semitransparent when you glue it.

Materials
  • Small wooden serving tray (we got ours for $5 at Michael's)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Card stock
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Tissue paper
  • Foam brush
  • Mod-Podge

STEP 1: Paint the tray and let it dry (about 30 minutes).
STEP 2: Trace your child's hand onto the card stock and cut it out. Use it as a template to trace and cut 6 to 8 hands from tissue paper.
STEP 3: With the foam brush, spread Mod-Podge on the bottom of the tray and press the tissue paper hands onto it. Now cover the bottom of the tray, including the hands, with more Mod-Podge. Let it dry. To clean the tray, wipe it lightly with a damp sponge.
